The Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture (IVS)

About University
The Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture (IVS) was founded in 1989 by a group of professional architects, designers and artists. The IVS was granted an independent charter by the Government of Sindh in June 1994, thereby empowering it to award its own degrees.

Location

The main campus of IVS is located at Clifton, Karachi.

Karachi is the largest city of Pakistan and its financial capital. Karachi is country's main sea port with the area of over 1,300 Square Miles. Karachi is the nerve center of Pakistan's economy with major industries of textiles, shipping, automotive industry, entertainment, the arts, fashion, advertising, publishing, software development and medical research are located in and around the city. Karachi is linked by rail to the rest of the country by Pakistan Railways. The Karachi City Station and Karachi Cantonment Railway Station are the city's two major railway stations. Karachi also has an international airport called Jinnah International airport and it approximately handles 10 million passengers every year.

University is comprised of the following three faculties:

  • Faculty of Architecture
  • Faculty of Design
  • Faculty of Fine Arts

Facilities and Resources

Student Council
At Indus Valley, the Student Council is comprised of individuals who are willing and ready to perform and direct change for the student body and the institution. The council thrives on coordinating co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, community service, promoting cultural exchange, & creating awareness for social and civic responsibility. All events and activities are channeled through a proper panel comprising of department heads, coordinators, school administration and respective year representatives. Many requests, queries and proposals are almost always brought forward by the students themselves. The council is there to bridge communication between the Institution and its students. It is there to ensure voices and concerns of the students are heard and the Institution lives up to its prestige and pride. As per tradition, the council members are elected under the ideology of Democracy. The Student Council Elections for 2010 were conducted in April of 2010 to ensure that the new council was ready and decided for the new term.

Library
Marium Abdulla Library houses approximately 9500 books, including 950 dissertations based on research work carried out by the IVS students each year and over 10,000 slides on the subjects being taught at the School. The Library also has a subscription of over 30 international and local journals/magazines.

Counselling Service
University's counseling service aims to provide inroads and help all the agencies involved in any educational activity to produce psychologically healthy people who are able to reflect on their potentialities, set new aspirations, deepen their self-understanding, and strive towards perfection.
